LOVE what I just read in Grooming the Next Generation for Success by Dani Johnson.

By immunize, she’s not talking about getting shots at the pediatrician’s.

She’s talking about preparing our kids for the rebellious stage when they become teenagers.

What Dani does, and I absolutely love how you can implement this immediately, is she begins planting seeds into her children at the ages of 9 through 11.  These seeds are questions like:

“Are you going to be one of those teenagers who hates their parents?”

“Are you still going to love and honor me when you’re 13?  A lot of 13-year-old kids hate their parents and talk behind their backs.”

If we have the desire and willingness to call out to God, “Help!  I need you to help me lead, train and guide my kids in the way best for them, the way they should go.”  If we’ve done our best as parents, though we are imperfect, HE has been their greatest teacher, comforter, lover and friend all along.  At these early stages of our children’s lives, they have the foundation and equipping to be able to answer those questions above with a resounding, “Yes!”

When Dani’s son, Cabe, turned 13, he started acting out.  Dani asked him these questions (and a few more :) ) at that moment and it woke him from what she calls the “stupid pill.”

I’m going to be implementing this one soon…although my Sweetie is 6 and Buddy is 4, it can never be too soon to start “immunizing.”

What about you?  How do you prepare your young ones or pre-teens for the teenage years?

That's an interesting coincidence! The book has been “coincidentally helpful” to me…when I had a question or struggle about teaching something to my kids, I happen to read a section that night on the same topic. 2 nights in a row that's happened.
