“Just doing the right thing is more important than why I do it.” ~Assumption #11 from 12 Christian Beliefs That Can Drive You Crazy.
Yesterday, our beloved Safe Haven group met at our home and talked about this assumption.
Obedience is something many Christians struggle to do. Yet we want to do the right thing. When you do something, do you know the reason for doing it?
Why should we obey? The standard answer would be, “Because we should.” But if we want obedience with no grudge or resentment, we need to go deeper than that. We need to go to the heart of who we are.
Here’s a recent example of getting to the heart of who we are. Through the world of blogging, I have the privilege of getting to know some real fantastic women! It amazes me how much we can share our hearts and be who we are, warts and all. We don’t get judged for it either, it’s as if we just put that stuff down and admit we all make mistakes and are not perfect. I find this SO refreshing in the blogging community!
One such gal, her name is Kimberly from The Stinker Pinkers. She is SO REAL when it comes to her writing. You can just tell she writes from her heart. Her humor is contagiously cheerful…and she calls it sarcasm! I love reading her blog, she’s a neat virtual friend and she makes me laugh. If you haven’t done so already, go check out her blog! You’ll find a real deep and fun character about her! She even gave me an award, the Sugar Doll award.
The rules of the Sugar Doll award are:
1. Thank the person who gave you this award.
2. Share 5 things about yourself.
3. Pass the award along to 5 bloggers who you have recently discovered and who you think are fantastic!
4. Contact the bloggers you’ve picked and let them know about the award.
Now if these were just a bunch of rules that I need to follow, without me knowing the reason behind why I’m doing it, it would not be very meaningful. But I’m thrilled to say doing this is at the heart of who I am. I love to appreciate others and express it! It’s so freeing to me to be able to express how I enjoy someone or something they did. And to have it brighten their day! So Kimberly, thank you so much for this beautiful award! Thank you for saying such kind things about me, it really means a lot to me to read what you wrote. So uplifting and edifying! Ah, I’m just soaking it in…
Okay, here are 5 things about myself:
1. I grew up doing boys’ kind of stuff. You know, frying ants with a magnifying glass, playing basketball, that kind of thing.
2. I spent 1.5 years in Hong Kong when I was under 2 years old, without my mom.
3. I took karate lessons with my brother.
4. I love art and music. It doesn’t always show nowadays, but deep down down, I do.
5. I majored in a subject I grew to hate, but graduated with the degree anyway. It took me 6 years.
And here are the 5 blogs I’m passing this award onto:
1. Mama Hen at Mama’s Little Chick
2. Hannie at Still Glad To Be Here
3. Veronica at Of Mice and Ramen
4. Barbie at My Freshly Brewed Life
5. Kasey at A Little Cup of Comfort
Congratulations, ladies! You all inspire me with who you are and what you write about. Thanks!!
