Wouldn’t you say having fun is supposed to be intuitive?

Meaning, you don’t need to be taught how to have fun, you just do!

Especially for children.

For some people though, it’s not that easy to have fun…

That being said, I must make a disclaimer.  By no means am I an expert on fun, in fact I really could use more fun in my life!

Seriously though, the question remains at the end of the day…

What do you and I do for fun?

What do you enjoy doing?  Do you get to do it?

Or have the responsibilities of life taken up most of your time (and mine) so that all we’re doing is running to do the next thing on our list?

It’s easy to let life become a series of to-do’s, after all we have many many things to take care of.  If I’m not careful, I can become a slave to my to-do list instead of the master.  I prefer to be the master :)

I prefer to have my priorities in order so I can enjoy regular guilt-free fun!

Wouldn’t you?

Here’s a time management principle I learned that seems counter-intuitive:

1. Ask yourself if lack of time or money were not an issue, what would you do?

2.  Let yourself be in touch with what you enjoy doing.

3.  Schedule an hour (or more) of time to do what you enjoy – even when you don’t think you have the time to fit “fun” in, or you feel guilty for doing so.

The counter-intuitiveness of this is that after you’ve forced allowed yourself to have fun doing something you truly enjoy, you’ll feel so rejuvenated that you’ll have more energy & motivation to work.  And you’ll get more done in less time :)

Back to what I enjoy (and I’ll need to let myself make time for these)…scrapbooking, making crafts, playing guitar, singing, all things artsy craftsy expressive-sy!  And last week, I started doing something to tone down my tummy and it ended up being really fun – Pilates for Dummies!  Sweetie did it with me too, it was so cute with her on the couch following along.

There’s more to explore, I’m not done yet…what about you?

What do you do for fun?  Does anything stop you from doing it?

I definitely become a slave to my to do list at times! For me, I try to prioritize and leave certain things for the next day so I can get some quality fun time in with my family. I also try to make the must do tasks fun, which isn’t hard with a 16 months old. It’s hysterical watching her try to “help” me!

I love photography and I have found that finding time to do photo sessions for families is hard as a nursing mom …every three hours gotta give the kid what she wants. lol. I try to squeeze in practice things while she naps but she only naps for 30 minutes so it’s kinda stressful at times. I do somehow though find time here and there to do little things…watch a show after she goes to bed, practice taking pictures of the flowers in my front yard, blog at night…harder and harder to find time for it lately:). Fun is important I agree:)

I like this post! My fun depends on the people I’m around. If they are an energy drain then I have a hard time being carefree. If they are fun loving then a simple day of sitting around can be memorable and (my favorite) hilarious. Good stuff Jinnia

Jinnia this is an excellent post! I do a lot of fun things with and for my daughter. But there is one thing that I really miss and wish I could do, but lack of time and money don’t let me at this time. I was a competetive ballroom dancer and I love to dance! I miss it very much! Lessons cost a lot and I don’t have time. I have a huge yearning though! I will soon! Have a great night my friend!

Yes, you do do a lot of fun things with LC! Love it, she’ll cherish all the memories I’m sure. You were a competitive ballroom dancer? Wow! How long have you done it? I hope you get to do it again someday!

I need to stop feeling guilty about the time I spend enjoying myself. I tend to worry if I haven’t been “achieving” enough on any given day, even in what’s supposed to be my down-time…

I blog, and visit other blogs, for fun. And I totally enjoy water aerobics, with the additional benefit that it’s good for me, so I am wedging it back into my life. And I have fun going on little trips away with my family and we manage to do that every now and then. :)

Kinda know what you mean…I enjoy “achieving” so it’s sometimes counter-intuitive to have fun in down-time.

Sounds great! You know how to fit fun in :)
