You’ll probably do quite well for a while.
Here we’re talking about long-term success.
You’ve seen talented folks from all walks of life. Taylor Swift. Tiger Woods. Bill Gates.
Did they get to where they’re at because they’re talented? Or because they’re hard-working?
“Have success and there will always be fools to say that you have talent.” ~Edouard Pailleron
Talent can certainly get a person noticed. Talent can also bring about initial success. But without character traits such as unselfishness, patience, diligence and punctuality, talent alone doesn’t get a person very far. The success plateaus and that person’s territory is not enlarged.
In his book “Talent Is Never Enough”, leadership expert John Maxwell discusses this very interesting fact. Interesting…because most American business leaders think that recruiting talented people will solve most of their problems.
This is not to say that talent is not important.
Talent indeed ushers in opportunity! It’s a major player for sure.
But there’s a lot more to discover about this ‘talent mindset’.
For now, I’ll leave you with this question:
When you see a successful person, do you think they got there because of talent or hard work?
